THE economic downturn hasn't persuaded everyone to pinch pennies. Philippines President Maria Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was at Le Cirque the other night with a large entourage enjoying the good life, even though the former comptroller of her country's armed serv ices, Carlos Garcia, was found guilty earlier this year of per jury and two of his sons were arrested in the US on bulk cash-smuggling charges. Maca pagal-Arroyo ordered several bottles of very expensive wine, pushing the dinner tab up to $20,000.

I just watched The Proposal this weekend. I was probably the last person on earth to watch it. Within the first thirty minutes, my bag-spotting eyes could not get enough of the beautiful bag Sandra Bullock was wearing. Love it! Love it!

Thanks to the ever helpful (and enabling) Purse Forum members, I found out that the bag was a Prada Cervo Antik shopper tote!

Darn it! Now, I don't own a Prada. The designs have never appealed to me. This bag, however, is gorgeous. The neutral color makes it go well with my wardrobe.

I have to admit though that I really went to watch the movie to check out Ryan Reynolds wearing nothing but a towel. That scene should have been longer. Hehehe.

Bag Sighting: MV's Givenchy Nightingale

It's been so nice to be working with fellow lawyer and baglover MV lately. In between serious conversations about work, we get to sneak in discussions about our shared love for bags.

Anyway, she mentioned that she bought a new bag. I freaked when I found out it was the Givenchy Nightingale. I totally love this bag! The bag's leather is so soft. I also like the shape which reminds me of the YSL Muse. The nice thing, about this bag is the extra strap which lets you carry the bag across your shoulder. Great minds must think alike because I was crushing on the gray version. Most importantly, she got it on sale from Adora. Here are some pictures:

Watching Tim Gunn's Guide to Style

I'm watching Tim Gunn's Guide to Style! I love the new season with Gretta Monahan. She seems friendlier and a lot more approachable than Veronica Webb.

I want a Tim Gunn intervention!

This week's episode is about Erica Mollica, a bride-to-be, who is tall and thin and has been having difficulty finding clothes to fit her 5'11" frame.

I totally cannot relate.

However, that doesn't stop me from trying to pick up a tip or two and sharing them with you.

He just said that there would be no "keeper" capris. He is totally against them. I feel so guilty! Darn! Had to head to my closet and fold the capris away.

Skirts should fall just above, just below or right at the knee. I'm good on this point.

The makeover starts with an underwear fitting. Her confidence boosted with the proper bra at the right size. Mental note: Get bra fitting during the weekend.

Tim Gunn shows the girl a lifesize image of her. I'm scared at how my image would have looked like.

It's shopping time. Tim Gunn hands the girl his ten essential items. I'm checking my closet to see if I have these ten items and what needs to be updated. Yes! More reasons (excuses!) to go shopping.

She's now on a visit to InStyle magazine where they are planning her honeymoon outfit. She got a DVF gift set with two bikinis and a coverup. Is there a local Tim Gunn version and is he visiting me soon?

They're now shopping at Neiman Marcus. I'm annoyed at how tall and thin she is. Her legs are probably taller than me. Sourgraping me!

Designer Yigal Azrouel is actually hot. His clothes are gorgeous too. She gets to choose a dress! I would cry too.

Hair and makeup. Tip: Wear a button down shirt when getting your hair and makeup done. Otherwise, how will you change into your fancy clothes without ruining your hair and makeup?

It's reveal time. I love the dress she chose. Her husband-t0-be is floored. It's a Cinderella story!

Parking Guard in Boots

I have barely blogged about the Jimmy Choo wellington boots when look at what I saw a parking guard casually strolling around in rain boots:

We can all take lessons from how the parking guard I saw rocked his rain boots:

1. Comfort is key. These boots are made for schlepping around in the rain. That's exactly how you should use them.

2. Do tuck your pants into the boots. After all, with the new skinny jeans trend, it's a miracle if your boots can fit under your pants.

3. When in doubt, wear black. After all, you will be wearing them year after year in our rainy weather.

4. It's better if you get flat boots. I am the ultimate clumsy girl. If I got rain boots with heels, I am asking to be placed in a cast again.

5. Be comfortable with your body. You don't need to be a model to wear these boots. Think about it. Paddington bear was not exactly tall and he rocked his boots everyday.

By the way, this photo was taken at JT Manukan along Gilmore Street. I love the chicken inasal there drizzled liberally with chicken oil (my arteries started tightening even as I type this).

Credit Card Updates

Did I mention that I printed my blog about my credit card woes and furnished my local BDO branch a copy? I figured the amiable staff there deserved to know when I suddenly pull out all my accounts from them. Not that it was really worth that much. That was on December 9.

The next day, I was at a MCLE seminar when our admin called and said that a messenger was there to deliver my card. Interesting. I thought it would take them longer. Apparently not when you raise hell.

But then something happened that totally made my new BDO credit card seem...corny?

When I got home, a pretty shiny black envelope was waiting for me. Imagine my surprise when upon opening the envelope, it featured a shiny new Rustan's-Citibank credit card! I was so excited! Rebates at Rustan's and SSI stores. Woohoo! Happiness! (Or financial ruin.) It's all perspective.

And beat this, BDO, their credit limit is higher and they are accepted in MORE stores for 0% installment.

BDO Credit Card - I've Reached My Limit

Readers of this blog know that only a gorgeous handbag can bring palpitations to my heart.

However, a recent incident involving my BDO credit card almost made my blood pressure soar through the roof.

Last 6 December 2008, at around 1 pm, I loaded gas at the Petron service station at the corner of EDSA and Connecticut Street. Thereafter, I presented my BDO Gold Credit Card for payment of my gas bill. The gas station attendant asked me to move my car and wait beside their convenience store and they will bring my card and the receipt to me. I waited for several minutes before a soft-spoken gas attendant approached my car and informed me that my card was denied. He said that the bank informed them not to honor my credit card.

I was shocked beyond belief. I had just paid for my credit card bill which falls due at the end of the month. My credit limit is Php100,000.00 so there was no possible way I exceeded the limit. Embarrassed, I fished for cash from my purse to pay for my gas. It was a good thing I brought cash that day.

Upon reaching my friend's house, I immediately placed a call to the BDO Credit Card Customer Service hotline. I was then informed by a harried customer service representative that they have UNILATERALLY cancelled my card because they were undergoing a re-card program. As such, my credit card has been cancelled since 2 December 2008.

What the?! In the first place, my latest SOA did not contain any information about a re-card program. Why was I not informed of the same so I could have made the necessary arrangements? I was horribly pissed because I could have been at a restaurant with my family or at a store with no way to pay for my purchases.

Second, if assuming the re-card program was made in good faith, where was my replacement card? The rep told me that their contractor attempted to serve my new card last 28 November 2008 but it was not handed to me for "various reasons".

I checked my calendar. 28 November 2008 was a Friday and a fairly busy one for me. I was in my office the entire day. My monthly statements of account are served to me at my office. Hence, the new card should have been served there as well following my indicated preferences, right? No.

Further, for my other credit cards, they were conscientious enough to send me notices by email or by text messages if they are unable to deliver a SOA or have me receive my card. Simple customer service dictated that a similar treatment be accorded to me by BDO considering that they were planning to cancel my credit card on the next working day, 2 December 2008. Unfortunately, I was not granted the same and I had to find out the hard way four (4) days after they UNILATERALLY cancelled my card.

What made the situation even worse for me is their failure to quickly resolve the matter. I was told that I could only have my credit card reactivated on the next working day. They pretty much told me they will need 8 (!) working days to get my new card sent to me.

What?!! This is the freaking Christmas season! I use my credit card precisely because I don't want to be lugging around cash in my bag while navigating an overcrowded mall full of people in a shopping frenzy. Likewise, I don't want to line up in front of an ATM. It's too dangerous and defeats the purpose of getting a credit card in the first place.

Am I frustrated? Yes, I am. In the meantime, I use my other credit card for my purchases. Too bad for you, BDO! Or maybe not. Maybe they don't need my business in this economic recession.

However, I have found the perfect excuse now. So, to my family and friends, I am sorry. No gifts for you this Christmas! My credit card was declined.

1. Longchamp Le Pliage tote

A French woman staple, the Le Pliage tote made the Longchamp brand recognizable worldwide. It's a versatile tote which folds up for hassle-free storage and keeping. Depending on her needs and taste preferences, you can choose from a wide variety of sizes, colors and even handles.

The bag size featured above is about USD118. In the Philippines, Longchamp is available at Rustan's and at the duty free shop at the airport so get a friend or relative to buy it for you there.

2. Fino Leatherware bags

Go local! I have several Fino office bags and travel totes. The leather is very durable. Their new collection now features crocodile-stamped cow leather in bright colors. I think they make a good addition to any working woman's wardrobe. They have a medium-sized doctor's bag for about PhP7,000 or less. The most expensive bag they have is about Php11,000++. Here's a suggestion - why don't you get a small bag with a matching wallet and other accessories. I think it's a cute idea and the entire set will still be within budget.

Fino has stores in Podium, Shangri-la, Rockwell, Trinoma and several other malls. Try to catch them when they go on sale (about 10- 15% off) during the several upcoming mall-wide sales.

3. Coach totes and bags

If you are not queasy about shopping online, there are several Multiply and Ebay sellers that sell Coach bags. Coach is no longer available locally through Rustan's so your best bet is to buy from reliable online sellers. Hongkong is the nearest place with a Coach store. They even have a huge one at Central.

Some men are still leery about using a man bag. Who can blame them? In the macho Philippine setting, man bags, especially for more mature men, is still considered taboo. The only exception would be the ubiquitous clutch bag.

However, some men are constantly searching for the middle ground. Profoundly averse to the clutch bag, these man still will not sling a messenger bag across their shoulders.

This leaves the problem unsolved. Where do you put your little comb, Blackberry, PDA, cell phone, wallet, pens and keys, as well as other knicknacks, that have become an essential part of a man's everyday life?

One solution could be a leather portfolio case. With a portfolio case, the essentials are kept secure in one location other than in a man's pockets. The design is very discreet. Newspaper Reading: Why I Should Stop

One lazy evening, Mrs. G. and I were at UCC having coffee and cake. She was reading a housewifely tome while I was busy thumbing through the day's newspapers.

Now, I haven't read newspapers in a long while. I get most of my information from the Internet. It was therefore an interesting time for me to reacquaint myself with the newsprint ink bleeding onto my fingers and the familiar flipping of the huge pages.

This is what greeted me while reading an article:

"Opera is a perfectly legitimate filed."

A typo. A significant one at that as it changed the entire meaning of the sentence. I ignored it.

New newspaper. New article. The article nearly made me fall off my seat. Here's why:

The words "evening" and "the" were misspelled. The word "of" was omitted.

How? How? How? When you get paid to write (which luckily I don't for this blog), it's mandatory to spell check and proofread. Tsk. tsk.

As if that wasn't enough, the next article I read made my blood boil:

"But for me, the biggest reason why we should throw the RH bill out of the halls of Congress comes from the editorials of many local and national newspapers, praising overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) for their role in stabilizing the Philippines in the heat of the Wall Street financial debacle. Now these politicians want to curtail our population growth so that OFWs will soon be a thing of the past. With the way the government is being run (like hell by Filipinos), you can bet that even (God forbid) after the passage of the RH bill, Filipinos would still be poor because it is the unbridled corruption that is the cause of our poverty, not our population growth.

It is a fact that the very countries that controlled their populations in the past 20 years are now suffering severe population decline which they have learned belatedly has become irreversible! These are the countries that have embraced our OFWs who in turn bring back more than $12 billion to our shores and thus have insulated us from the financial crisis. Surely our politicians are not that stupid that they would now support the RH bill that would cause our population to decline to the point that OFWs would no longer be needed. This means, no more $12 billion coming to our shores. So you politicians out there ought to ponder this very thought!"

What the?! I was flabbergasted! Maybe my logic is faulty, but I really failed to get the connection.

On a lighter note, I am loving this new Kashieca ad:

While a loyal Sharonian, I really can't support this outfit KC is wearing. Pink bra over sheer white shirt?! The outfit is very unflattering. She's a very pretty girl. It takes very little effort to make her stunning. This ensemble should not have even been considered. Tsk. Tsk.

At this point, Mrs. G grabbed all the newspapers within reach and forbade me from reading them anymore.

Coupled with the impeccable craftsmanship and the beautiful brick red color, I am starting to like this bag! It's a tote you can pass on to your children, I rationalized.

Then, I saw the price (USD3950) and I gulped. Several times.

Speedy Love - 2 Great Colors!

MM, tell your friend that the epi Speedy 30 has two more great colors to choose from - Ivoire and Cassis.

I think the Cassis is so pretty! The dark purple hue makes the bag stand out without being too "colorful". The lining is so pretty too.

As for the Ivoire, well, I know better as I have the super bad habit of plonking my bag without checking the surface. Translated, stains and grime. The horror!

Per the update, the Grenade is only available in epi Speedy 25.

I think these bags are a great start to any bag collection. Much better than monogram canvas.

Sofia jewelled Minaudiere

Here are the works of a local bag designer, CATHY, I found online by accident. I was searching for a good evening bag when I stumbled into her website. I must say I love her current collection. Here are some of my favorites:

Lulu oversized clutch. I love the color mix set against the silver background.
Lily Mini Messenger Bag. Perfect for a casual shopping day where you need both hands free to browse. Other colors are heather gray and brown. Can't decide what color to get!
Cleo Cocktail bag. I'm thinking of getting this bag for my sister's wedding. Love the chain and the jewel detail.

The good news is that the bags are very affordable so you can splurge and get more than one bag!

Bag Spotting at North Park

My office mates and I decided to have lunch at the nearby North Park one day last week. As usual, while they were busy deciding what to order, my eyes were preoccupied with checking out the bags of the other patrons. I hit the jackpot with one particular woman having lunch by herself:

I really have to apologize for the camera quality. I have been considering upgrading my phone to one with a better camera precisely for these bag reconnaissance missions.

Stumped? It's none other than the LV Monogram Vernis Summit Drive.

This bag is making me rethink my stance on the Monogram Vernis. I really have serious issues about the color transfer and maintenance problems I've heard about this line. An additional attraction is the Amarante color which is TDF (to die for)!

C Sees at Mercury Drug

She should have known better.

Mrs. G dragged me to Mercury Drug to buy whatever it was she was buying. With nothing better to do, I found myself wandering the grocery section. (Side note: why is there always a grocery section in a drug store? It's like the school supplies in the bookstore. Kinda a misnomer, don't you think?)

It wasn't long before I started giggling uncontrollably. I can't help it. I didn't invent these things. They're just there and somehow they call to me and my eternal amusement.

Turkey Ham Sandwich

It's my lunch break and I am happily munching on a turkey ham sandwich which I brought to work.

Since time immemorial, moms and daughters have, what could only be described as, complicated relationships. At any point in time, you're either the best of friends or at each other's throats.

Today was one of the good days.

As usual, I woke up late. Humming Manic Monday to myself (generation gap!), I frantically prepared for work. Given time constraints, I didn't have time to have breakfast.

As I swept past the dining table, my mom calls out to me and hands me a sandwich. It was turkey ham. With cheese, tomatoes and lettuce. She told me to bring it along since I didn't have time to have breakfast.

You're never too old for a dose of motherly care and concern. Nothing can lift your spirit quite as much.

What Brews with your Coffee? - Not for the Faint of Heart

As part of my cost-cutting measures (for the new bag love!), I have foregone my daily designer coffee (UCC, Starbucks) fix for the instant coffee mixes. We have to be practical and some sacrifices have to be made.

Luckily, my office has those instant coffee vending machines. Drop your coins, make your selection (black, with sugar, with cream) and the machine adds hot water and you get your instant coffee in seconds. With prices no higher than P12, these vending machines are a heaven sent for caffeine junkies needing a quick fix.

Last Saturday, I saw a sign tacked to the vending machine:

As you can deduce, I am now getting my caffeine fix from Coke Zero.

Protecting your bags in Rainy Weather

The rainy season has come upon us and bag lovers are in a panic! How do you keep your bags from getting wet? While some bags are made of waterproof material, that protection may not be enough. It's time to check out possible rainy day bag solutions!

When it's raining hard and the winds are very strong, having an umbrella will not be enough. In all likelihood, your umbrella may not be able to withstand the strong winds. You and your precious handbag will end up getting drenched! I actually saw a girl in Rockwell with this dilemma. I pity her Neverfull's drenched state.

The cheapest way, of course, is to always bring a plastic bag along where you can slip your bag in when it rains. Understandably, this is not the most stylish solution.

Kate as Emma and Succumbing to TGIFriday's Commercial

I spent Saturday night at MM's house after we stayed up late watching Emma, an adaptation of the classic Jane Austen novel starring Kate Beckinsale and Mark Strong. Definitely a fun watch!

On a side note, Kate seemed to have had something done to her face. Contrast 2005 and 1996:

Unless she has a magic potion from growing old gracefully? Whatever it is, I'm buying.

On another shallow note, Mark Strong had a receding hairline situation which was very distracting. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Shallow, shallow. However, per MM, this adaptation was very faithful to the novel so do check it out.

The next day, Sunday (late) morning came with perfect sunny weather. What should be done? Well, turn on the TV, of course! And the first commercial that came on was the one for TGI Friday's.

So... I didn't go to the Tresorie sale. (Sad face inserted here.) I was literally saved from financial ruin by my sprained ankle. Since I can't drive and I'm a slave to whoever picks me up, going to Makati was out of the question. Oh well.

As for how I sprained my ankle, I think that's a topic for a whole new post altogether. Happy weekend everyone!

Surviving the Drought and the Tresorie Bag Sale

Ordinary employees know that the months between August to October are the months of "drought". What do I mean? Let me explain....

Salaried employees are happiest from November to January. Most corporations release their 13th month and/or Christmas bonus in stages during those months. Wallets are full. Celebrations are plentiful.

Thereafter, especially when you have good relations with your employers, you get your salary adjustment shortly after January. A few privileged souls also get mid-year bonuses. The happy months with extra money should last until July. Hence, just in time for the summer sales.

Then, the drought months arrive. And one has to live within the confines of one's monthly salary. Take out the income taxes automatically deducted (it hurts!) and one is seldom left with enough money for the little joys of life (bags!)

That is where I am right now.

Then, while checking out the Tresormakati website, I saw this -

Men are sooo Observant!

Ever noticed how (not)observant men are?

Last Sunday, taking advantage of the long weekend, I went to Cielo Salon for my scheduled haircut and color with Louis Kee. I have been going to him for the past year and I've been really happy with the results.

Anyways, when my session was done, Louis told me that I couldn't wash my hair for the next three days to let the color absorb and prevent premature fading. Alrighty. Good thing Monday is a holiday.

Tuesday comes and the daily grind begins anew. My entire office was in full busy mode. We were also one lawyer short as one of the lawyers underwent Lasik surgery. It won't be a problem in bigger law firms but it sure is felt in our 7-man team.

Wednesday. I'm getting antsy. Three days of not washing your hair causes oil to build up. I know it's weird but I really felt like the oil from my hair was literally travelling down my face making me feel blah the entire day.

Thursday. After two washings, the oil is gone. The color is starting to come out and I can see the reddish-brown tones in my hair. The layered bob with side-swept bangs works nicely with my hair texture (I have a slight wave in my hair.)Happy, happy. Louis is really a god!

The entire time, I am carrying on intensive conversations with the other female lawyers in my office about the state of my hair. Hehehe. Shallow, I know. But it keeps us from going insane come crunch time.

Friday, I walked into work and into a minor crisis. Conferring the entire time with my boss, I settled the slight problem. Thereafter, I was asked to attend a meeting for my boss. Slightly before lunch, I walk back to the office.

My male officemate stares at me and remarks if I had something done to my hair. It looked different, he said. The girls in my office roll their eyes and inform him that I've been sporting my new hairdo since Tuesday. He responds that he hadn't notice. Sigh.

Later, my boss walks up to me. This time, it was his turn to remark that my hair looked nice and if I had gotten a haircut LAST NIGHT. He then proceeds to say that I was probably fixing my hair because I have a crush in the office. Yes, I am a 17-year old giggly teenager. Sigh. Sigh.

So, ladies, unfortunately, unless you paint your hair orange, men really couldn't tell the difference.

I first read about the works of Prezemek Sobocki, a Polish illustrator, in StyleBubble's blog. From the moment I gazed upon these illustrations, I was hooked. Absolutely stunning. Sobocki has done work for Commons& Sense, Numero Tokyo, and Hint magazines, to name a few. I'm loving his LV Colouring Book illustrations featuring LV bags from the Spring Summer 2008 collection. Multicolored Handbags

While I didn't love it at first, the YSL Muse Two is starting to grow on me. I don't have any YSL bag yet. But the Muse Two is looking to be a great choice to add to my growing wish list. Love came upon seeing this colorful version.

I love how the bag's colors make it pop. Instantly creating the perfect accent piece to a somber outfit.

Then, I spied the Balenciaga Lune bag with a similar structure and color scheme.

Now, I'm confused! I also don't have a Balenciaga yet.

I'm usually very conservative about my bag choices. I'm blaming the Prada Nappa Trembled Blossoms tote for my current obsession with colorful bags.

For Janylin fanatics who can't afford their steep price tag, go to Cubao X (formerly Marikina Shoe Expo) to their outlet stores. Janylin has, not one, but two, stores in Cubao X. The stores also carry their other brand, Juan. Pumps in various colors are available for cheap, with prices going below PhP1000.00. Stock and size availability can be seasonal so do pass by regularly to check out what's available.

Also, the Janylin stores can do repairs and other shoe services. Love your shoes but finding the color blah? Janylin in Cubao X can change the color for you. They even stretch the shoes for you if you are between sizes.

A good tip I recommend is to get to know the salesladies as they are very accomodating.

There are also other shoe stores in Cubao X and I hear some of them offer custom-made shoes but have yet to try this out for myself.

Tired after your shopping frenzy? The restaurants inside Cubao X offer great food for their reasonable prices. I always have a good time at Cubao X and I am sure you will too.

Long Weekend - Off to the Mall

It's the long weekend and I am off to the mall for "research". Might try to catch the last day of the Rockwell Urban Bazaar and get some much needed rest before the work grind starts anew. In the meantime, can anyone help me identify the bag PGMA is wearing in China?

Hmm... upon further research, it's seems to be a Hermes Kelly but can't really say unless I can find a clearer picture or one where the bag is facing front. So what do you guys think?

Hehehe. I laughed so much after seeing this cartoon. I am also a guilty user of the gigantic handbags! They weigh a ton and I can never figure out why. My stuff just keeps getting dumped inside until I can no longer find anything at all but can see everything else (did I really need to bring 2 brushes?).

Lately, I've being using a smaller work bag and have been amazed at how much easier it is to carry my bag around. Plus, my right shoulder doesn't hurt as much anymore. How about you? Are you a victim of the gigantic handbag?

LV Damier Neverfull - Now or Later?

Tears are swimming in my eyes as I type this post. During my eternal bargain hunting search on Ebay Philippines, I chanced upon a seller selling the LV Damier Neverfull MM at the rather "reasonable" price of Php38,000.

I say rather reasonable because that is still above the SRP in the US and probably way more the Paris prices... if they had this bag. You see, the LV Damier Neverfull is on limited release in Guam, Japan and Hawaii only! News on the forums say that this bag will only be released to the rest of the world next year. Believe me, some of the other sellers were selling this bag for way more because of its elusive nature.

What to do? What to do? Do I get the bag now? Or wait a few more months for its worldwide release? Having the bag before anyone else is a major draw. And I do prefer Damier to the Monogram canvas. On the other hand, I believe this will part of the permanent collection so you can get it anytime. Ouch, this is giving me a headache.

In the meantime, while I wallow in my uncertainty, here is the link to the bag. Nope, I won't mind if you get the bag.

Round 2. Who did it better? Who did it first? The two bags are eerily familiar...

The first bag above is The Sak Silverlake Convertible Satchel in Dark Amber popularized by Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus. The second bag below is the Botkier Sasha Duffel in Brown. A little too alike in my opinion.

Friend and lawyer BP sent me a text message asking me to feature man bags. He wants a bag "for a man who needs to keep his stuff in order especially when girlfriend or wife is not around or prefers teenie weenie bags but is adverse to carrying a clutch bag".

A daunting task and one I have been remiss in fulfilling. As such, in honor of BP, I present what will now be a regular post - Manday Monday!

For our first feature, for BP's consideration, we present the Louis Vuitton Trotteur bag in Siwa Leather...

This bag is from the 2008 Pre-Fall collection. According to Deluxe Duck, Siwa is an oasis in the middle of the Sahara leather. I love the classic look and feel of the bag. No screaming logos. Gorgeous leather. And I think the model bears a striking resemblance to BP (he wishes!). The line will come in 4 colors.

I was at Fully Booked in Greenhills last Saturday (Yes, I was in Rockwell and Greenhills on the same day!) when I realized that I have made a glaring omission. I have not featured any of the books on handbags. There were a couple of great books in Fully Booked. Here are my recommendations:

As I would be subjected to public scrutiny, right down to my shoes and bag, the first thing I would do is wax my legs (or wear tights) and then learn how to sit properly (legs together, knees bent at an angle).

Round 1 - Valentino v. YSL

Round 1. Who did it better? Who did it first? The two bags below are eerily familiar...

While scouring the collection of the The Museum of Bags and Purses, I came upon a lovely bag from YSL designed by Tom Ford in 2003. I was instantly drawn to it because I remembered seeing something similar before. Well, I found the twin in the latest Valentino collection featured at Neiman Marcus.

Apparently, a love for roses runs in both designers' genes. The similarities are more apparent in the black Valentino version. And the handles and shapes are a bit different. The Valentino is made of leather while the YSL is made of suede.

Friday Night Hospital Visit and Bag Sighting

Last night, under false pretenses, I had to rush my mom to the hospital emergency room. She wasn't feeling well and I wanted to make sure she was ok. Her blood pressure was slightly elevated which accounted for the dizziness. After an hour, the intern (do not get me started on my hospital observations) allowed her to go home. Thank God she's ok. Mommy, see the cardiologist already!

Anyway, once my mom was cleared, I had time to look around at the other patients... and their bags. I hit the jackpot with one particular mom who brought her son to the ER too. Too chicken to take pictures because I might get kicked out. But this was her bag...

A black Goyard Croisiere 35 bag. Sigh! It was so pretty IRL (in real life). Now, I want one. Want being the operative term. Mrs G., it is the perfect housewife bag.

While in HongKong recently, I spotted a bag store in Landmark Central called Valextra. Fascinated, I walked in and went straight into bag love heaven. The bags were elegant and logo-free. The designs were classic and timeless. Learn more about Valextra after the jump...

Valextra is an Italian leather goods company founded in 1937. It is famous with jet-setters for its luggage and travel goods. The ones who most likely travel on private jets and do not have their luggage subjected to the rough handling of commercial airlines.

A Valextra bag spells luxury without the usual accouterments of other high-end bags (i.e., screaming logos). I particularly like the following bags:

I was checking out possible maid of honor dresses for my sister's wedding (Sob! She's two years younger than me!) when I stumbled unto designer Monique Lhuillier's website. She has always been known for her wonderfully feminine gowns and dresses. Who knew she carried a handbag line as well? More pictures below...

The clutches really complement Monique's dresses. Would love to get one but they're only available at her flagship stores. Sigh. Oh well, they look like they all cost a pretty penny.

Working Bags

An officemate (yes, a male one!) asked me why I bring two bags to work everyday. I smiled and cheekily said, "Because I can!" That got me thinking though. How many bags do I need to go to work?

What are the two bags I carry?

Well, I have a black shoulder bag and a red big tote bag. This is on a normal day because I rotate my bags every so often.

The smaller bag is for my essential personal effects - wallet, cellular phones, keys, perfume, makeup kit, tissue, shades, a ballpen and a notebook.

The bigger bag is for my other essentials, the things I may need "just in case" - phone chargers, Ipod and Ipod charger, flats (to alternate with my 4" heels and when I'm driving), a scarf (for chily weather), alcohol wipes, an extra shirt, work documents (if I need to work at home).

Having enumerated all the things in my "just-in-case" tote, I'm not so sure I need to bring the extra bag. However, what can I do? It's a security blanket.

How to Prevent Your Speedy Bag from Sagging

As promised, this is my post on how to keep your LV Speedy bag from sagging. These tips are from personal experience and I make no warranties on their effectivity in your situation.

We, bag addicts, think of our bags as our little babies. A little TLC can go a long way in maintaining the overall look and shape of our Speedy bag.

1. Do not overload your bag.
The typical Speedy bag is made from canvas, accounting for the bag's slouchy structure. Overloading the bag places greater stress on its bottom. You will see that when your bag is full, the bottom tends to sag.

2. When not in use, store the bag with stuffing.
I use a mixture of bond paper and bubble wrap. Works for me. My officemate, MB, uses a plastic pillow (not quite sure how to call it) which came with her Mini Lin Speedy. Make sure to air tbe bag occasionally when planning to store for long periods of time to keep the lining from drying out and sticking together. It has been known to happen! Particularly with the bags with suede lining.

3. Add a base to the bag.
I bought a base shaper for my Speedy bags from a seller in Multiply. The base shapers come in different colors and textures. My sister, however, does not like using it because the edges stick out which may cause stress at the point where the edges are located. One wrong move and it may cause the bag to rip.

Others have used an old t-shirt or pillowcase to line the bottom. My officemate, MB, uses a cardboard box cut to measure for her bag.

A "Speedy" Post

Just a "speedy" little post on the iconic Speedy Bag by Louis Vuitton. The Speedy has gone through several reincarnations using different materials from the ubiquitous Monogram Canvas to its current versions in pink Ostrich (my favorite!) and the new Monogramouflage (not my favorite!).

What I love about the Speedy? The zipped top and the fact that it carries everything and the kitchen sink. What I don't love about the Speedy? The rolled short handles mean that you have to be carry the bag on your hand as opposed to other bags which you can sling over your shoulder. Also, the bottom tends to sag as time passes. Not very attractive to look at. Nonetheless, the Speedy is a great "starter" bag for your collection.

I will do a post on ways to prevent your Speedy bags from sagging.
