Bag Sighting: MV's Givenchy Nightingale

It's been so nice to be working with fellow lawyer and baglover MV lately. In between serious conversations about work, we get to sneak in discussions about our shared love for bags.

Anyway, she mentioned that she bought a new bag. I freaked when I found out it was the Givenchy Nightingale. I totally love this bag! The bag's leather is so soft. I also like the shape which reminds me of the YSL Muse. The nice thing, about this bag is the extra strap which lets you carry the bag across your shoulder. Great minds must think alike because I was crushing on the gray version. Most importantly, she got it on sale from Adora. Here are some pictures:

Loving the Hermes Twilly tied as a bag scarf.

A thank you goes out to Mr. MV (aka LV) who sent me the pictures from his wife. Hehehe.

It's a Classic!

Your weight may fluctuate...
Your fashion sense may evolve...
Your hair may go from light to dark...
But a great classic bag, especially if it's a Hermes Birkin, stands the test of time and will keep you company for a long, long time.

Bottega Veneta Origami Leather Tote

Photo from Style.Com

No one works it quite like Jessica Stam, don't you think? Here she is at the Fall/Winter 2008 collection for Bottega Veneta rocking a brick-colored bag. Here are other runway close-ups of the bag she is modeling.

Photos from Style.Com

I found the bag at Net-a-Porter. It's called the Origami Leather Tote. Details are here. The bag is described as:

Brick pleated leather origami tote with black snakeskin piping. Bottega Veneta bag has two small handles at top, a hexagonal base, suede lining and a zip fastening internal pocket.

Of course, with all Bottega Veneta bags, the devil (that pushes you to buy this bag) is in the details.

Check out the snakeskin(!) piping...

... and the suede lining.

Very few brands still continue to use suede for their lining. Even LV's latest bag releases no longer have suede linings.

Coupled with the impeccable craftsmanship and the beautiful brick red color, I am starting to like this bag! It's a tote you can pass on to your children, I rationalized.

Then, I saw the price (USD3950) and I gulped. Several times.

If you do like the bag, head on to your nearest Bottega Veneta store to see this little bag love up close.

Speedy Love - 2 Great Colors!

Palpitations!

MM, tell your friend that the epi Speedy 30 has two more great colors to choose from - Ivoire and Cassis.

Here are some pictures from LouisVuittonLover's blog:

I think the Cassis is so pretty! The dark purple hue makes the bag stand out without being too "colorful". The lining is so pretty too.

As for the Ivoire, well, I know better as I have the super bad habit of plonking my bag without checking the surface. Translated, stains and grime. The horror!

Per the update, the Grenade is only available in epi Speedy 25.

I think these bags are a great start to any bag collection. Much better than monogram canvas.

Rush, rush, rush and check the LV stores now for these babies!

Local Find: Cathy's Bags

Sofia jewelled Minaudiere

Here are the works of a local bag designer, CATHY, I found online by accident. I was searching for a good evening bag when I stumbled into her website. I must say I love her current collection. Here are some of my favorites:

Lulu oversized clutch. I love the color mix set against the silver background.
Lily Mini Messenger Bag. Perfect for a casual shopping day where you need both hands free to browse. Other colors are heather gray and brown. Can't decide what color to get!
Cleo Cocktail bag. I'm thinking of getting this bag for my sister's wedding. Love the chain and the jewel detail.

The good news is that the bags are very affordable so you can splurge and get more than one bag!

Long Weekend - Off to the Mall

It's the long weekend and I am off to the mall for "research". Might try to catch the last day of the Rockwell Urban Bazaar and get some much needed rest before the work grind starts anew. In the meantime, can anyone help me identify the bag PGMA is wearing in China?

Hmm... upon further research, it's seems to be a Hermes Kelly but can't really say unless I can find a clearer picture or one where the bag is facing front. So what do you guys think?

LV Damier Neverfull - Now or Later?

Tears are swimming in my eyes as I type this post. During my eternal bargain hunting search on Ebay Philippines, I chanced upon a seller selling the LV Damier Neverfull MM at the rather "reasonable" price of Php38,000.

Continue reading post after the jump...

I say rather reasonable because that is still above the SRP in the US and probably way more the Paris prices... if they had this bag. You see, the LV Damier Neverfull is on limited release in Guam, Japan and Hawaii only! News on the forums say that this bag will only be released to the rest of the world next year. Believe me, some of the other sellers were selling this bag for way more because of its elusive nature.

What to do? What to do? Do I get the bag now? Or wait a few more months for its worldwide release? Having the bag before anyone else is a major draw. And I do prefer Damier to the Monogram canvas. On the other hand, I believe this will part of the permanent collection so you can get it anytime. Ouch, this is giving me a headache.

In the meantime, while I wallow in my uncertainty, here is the link to the bag. Nope, I won't mind if you get the bag.

However, I am compelled to declare that I am not related or affiliated to the seller in any way and disclaim any liability for any transaction you may enter with the same. Hehehe.

Manday Monday - LV Siwa Trotteur and Camera Bag

Friend and lawyer BP sent me a text message asking me to feature man bags. He wants a bag "for a man who needs to keep his stuff in order especially when girlfriend or wife is not around or prefers teenie weenie bags but is adverse to carrying a clutch bag".

A daunting task and one I have been remiss in fulfilling. As such, in honor of BP, I present what will now be a regular post - Manday Monday!

For our first feature, for BP's consideration, we present the Louis Vuitton Trotteur bag in Siwa Leather...

This bag is from the 2008 Pre-Fall collection. According to Deluxe Duck, Siwa is an oasis in the middle of the Sahara leather. I love the classic look and feel of the bag. No screaming logos. Gorgeous leather. And I think the model bears a striking resemblance to BP (he wishes!). The line will come in 4 colors.

The Trotteur measures 2.8" x 8.3" x 9.8" and can be carried on the shoulder or across the body with its adjustable shoulder strap. Need a bigger bag? Check out the Camera Bag. Equally lovely!

Photos from Deluxe Duck.

Books on Bags

I was at Fully Booked in Greenhills last Saturday (Yes, I was in Rockwell and Greenhills on the same day!) when I realized that I have made a glaring omission. I have not featured any of the books on handbags. There were a couple of great books in Fully Booked. Here are my recommendations:

1. The Handbag: An Illustrated History by Caroline Cox

The handbag has never been more important in fashion than it is today. Whether Prada, Louis Vuitton, Gucci, or Chanel, the It bag of the season is a much-coveted designer item that indicates supreme style cachet—and for which the fashion-minded do not hesitate to spend.

In this lush volume, filled with a range of rich historical and contemporary images, fashion authority Caroline Cox explores the history of this must-have accessory, beginning with its development in the nineteenth century with the reticule—essentially a pocket with a handle—to the slouchy, greatly oversized bags popular today. In six chapters, each devoted to a decade, Cox not only highlights the most noteworthy bags in fashion design, but looks at their evolution within the social context of the day. Featured bags include Vuitton's revolutionary Noe bag for the female traveler, Art Deco clutch bags molded in Bakelite, the Hermès Kelly bag endorsed by Princess Grace of Monaco in the 1950s, and the It bag of the moment, the Marc Jacobs Stam. This book is a fascinating history of handbag design examined within the context of changing society and women's roles in it.

Filled with a collection of important handbags, diverse imagery, and a fun, informative text, this beautifully designed volume is a must-have for handbag aficionados and lovers of fashion alike.

2. Handbag Chic: 200 Years of Designer Fashion by Desire Smith

This comprehensive new book celebrates over 550 top quality handbags by leading and unknown designers the world over, dating from 1759 to 2004, with detailed information to describe their outstanding qualities. These carefully selected handbags are arranged by their primary materials and chronologically within each chapter, for easy reference and interesting comparisons. Here fine leather, fabric, metal, beaded, skin, and plastic handbags from all over Europe, England, Canada, The United States, and Asia appear in over 600 beautiful color photographs. Examples appear from the design houses of Adele Handbags, Asprey, Bergdorf Goodman, Bonnie Cashin for Coach, Cartier, Chanel, Coblentz, Collins of Texas, deLillo, Elizabeth Arden, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Givenchy, Gucci, Halston, Hermes, I. Miller, Joret, Judith Lieber, Keiselstein-Cort, Llewellen, Mandalian, Mark Cross, Marvel, Nettie Rosenstein, Patricia of Miami, Pierre Cardin, Raoul Calabro, Rialto, Roger Van S., Ronay, Rosenfeld, sydney love, Tiffany, Tropic, Tyrolean, Virginia Merrill, Viva, Whiting & Davis Co., Wilardy Original, Zandra Rhodes, and many more. An extensive Glossary, informative Resources section, Bibliography, and Index make this book friendly while instructional, securing an important place in the libraries of fashion historians, vintage clothing buffs, antique dealers, and accessories collectors alike.

Both books are available at Amazon. Photos courtesy of Amazon.

I think you can check Fully Booked for stocks.

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy

In my alternative life, I am married to a prince who takes me to visit the Queen Mum. My role model would be Carla Bruni-Sarkozy.

As I would be subjected to public scrutiny, right down to my shoes and bag, the first thing I would do is wax my legs (or wear tights) and then learn how to sit properly (legs together, knees bent at an angle).

And of course, let's talk bags and shoes! I was at Rockwell Powerplant mall last Saturday and I found the perfect meet-the-Queen bag:

Salvatore Ferragamo Classic Top Handle Bag
Also Available at Neiman Marcus

It was on sale. Tempting. Tempting. Mrs. G, on the other hand, fell in love with the Ferragamo Varina flats. In versions in suede, leather or patent leather, these yummy flats were just too adorable!

The flats are also available at the Ferragamo store in Rockwell. I love the coral one. I also love the white and black one. Now, I'm confused.

A "Speedy" Post

Just a "speedy" little post on the iconic Speedy Bag by Louis Vuitton. The Speedy has gone through several reincarnations using different materials from the ubiquitous Monogram Canvas to its current versions in pink Ostrich (my favorite!) and the new Monogramouflage (not my favorite!).

What I love about the Speedy? The zipped top and the fact that it carries everything and the kitchen sink. What I don't love about the Speedy? The rolled short handles mean that you have to be carry the bag on your hand as opposed to other bags which you can sling over your shoulder. Also, the bottom tends to sag as time passes. Not very attractive to look at. Nonetheless, the Speedy is a great "starter" bag for your collection.

I will do a post on ways to prevent your Speedy bags from sagging.
